There are places that leave you speechless, and then there are places that remind you where your heart belongs.
For me, that's Belize.
As someone who proudly calls Belize my home country, every visit is special. No matter how many times I return, I'm reminded of the incredible beauty this small but unforgettable country has to offer. This trip gave me the opportunity to experience one of Belize's most iconic natural wonders from a perspective I had never seen before—a flyover of the Great Blue Hole.
As our plane soared above the Caribbean Sea, I looked out the window at endless shades of turquoise and sapphire. Then, almost like a painting coming to life, the Great Blue Hole appeared beneath us.
It was breathtaking.
Seeing the perfectly circular sinkhole surrounded by the vibrant coral reefs of Lighthouse Reef Atoll made me appreciate Belize even more. Although I've admired photos of the Blue Hole for years, nothing compares to witnessing it from the sky. It's one of those moments that reminds you just how extraordinary nature can be.
A Belize Treasure
The Great Blue Hole is one of Belize's greatest natural treasures and one of the most recognizable marine landmarks in the world. Measuring more than 1,000 feet across and over 400 feet deep, it draws divers, photographers, pilots, and travelers from around the globe.
While many people dream of diving into the Blue Hole, viewing it from above offers a completely different appreciation for its size, shape, and incredible contrast against the crystal-clear Caribbean waters.
A Moment I'll Never Forget
As the plane circled overhead, everyone leaned toward their windows, eager to capture the perfect photo. For a few unforgettable minutes, time seemed to slow down.
I found myself putting my camera down for a moment just to take it all in.
It wasn't just about seeing one of the world's most famous natural wonders—it was about seeing a piece of my homeland from an entirely new perspective.
Those are the moments that stay with you long after the trip is over.
If You're Visiting Belize
If you're planning a trip to Belize, I can't recommend the Blue Hole flyover enough. Whether you're visiting for the first time or returning to explore more of this beautiful country, it's an experience you'll never forget.
A few tips:
- Get a window seat if possible.
- Keep your camera close to the window to reduce reflections.
- Record video continuously—you'll want to relive the moment later.
- Most importantly, don't spend the entire time behind your screen. Take a few moments to simply enjoy the view.
Final Thoughts
Belize will always be more than a destination to me—it's home.
Every visit reminds me why I'm so proud to share its beauty with others. From the lush rainforests and ancient Maya sites to the turquoise Caribbean Sea and the world-famous Great Blue Hole, Belize is filled with experiences that leave a lasting impression.
Flying over the Great Blue Hole wasn't just another excursion—it was a reminder of how fortunate I am to call this incredible country home.
If Belize is on your travel bucket list, make the Blue Hole flyover part of your journey. It's one of those rare experiences that is every bit as magical as you've imagined—and then some.
Thank you for joining me as I share a little piece of the country that will always have my heart.
